What ever happened to the traditional personal luxury coupe? When did the popularity of what used to be some of the most handsome & exclusive 2-door luxo-barges ever made start to fade? What made the big 3 in Detroit decide to quit producing cars with fine corinthian leather & replace them with imported hatchbacks from Japan? Back in the day, & I know I tend to harp on that a tad much on this blog, if you drove a Chevy Monte Carlo it was a sign that you & your family were doing alright financially. However, towards the end of that model's long time production run Chevrolet had managed to butcher it's heritage down to be nothing more than a thinly disguised 2-door version of everyone's favorite rental the Impala.
Equally as sad to see ruined over the years were the Cadillac Eldorado & Lincoln Continental Mark series; two classy coupe's at the opposite end of the spectrum that announced to the neighborhood your family had "arrived" if you were lucky enough to have one parked in your driveway.
I'll start this 3-part series with coupe's from Chrysler & Dodge. Following them will be Ford, Lincoln, & Mercury, & finally wrapping this tribute up featuring the MANY different coupe's created & sold by the multiple car groups within GM. First up....
CHRYSLER
Cordoba
Imperial
DODGE
Charger
Magnum XE
Mirada
